It was developed over the 24 year career by Dr. Mike Collins, the head coach at Lewis-Clark State College. In that period of time his program and athletes produced over 270 All-Americans, 20 cross country conference titles, six national champions and three Olympic Trials Qualifiers including the #4 ALL-TIME for the UK in the 10k, Sam Atkin, who uses a variation of this training for his own pre-season. The guide includes information about stretching, weight training, nutrition in addition to the 10-week training guidelines. It has been developed to meet the needs of a beginner runner as well as the more advanced of all levels of mileage. Coach Collins has a Master's degree in exercise physiology and a Ph.D. in sport science and he as applied that education into developing one of the best collegiate programs in the country and the start of their success is with their summer training.
