Football is truly an American sport. In most other American sports, there are hundreds of foreign-born players who have made an impact on the league. In Major League Baseball, there were 269 foreign-born players on an opening-day roster this season. Among the great foreign-born baseball players are David Ortiz, Mariano Rivera, Albert Pujols, Ichiro, and Shohei Ohtani. It has become the norm in baseball to have players from other countries.

The same can be said for the NBA. Some of the greatest players of all time have been born outside of the United States, including Hakeem Olajuwon, Dirk Nowitzki, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Tony Parker, and Steve Nash. But because football is rarely played outside the United States, it is unusual to have a foreign-born player make it to the NFL. What is more likely is that the son of immigrants makes it to the league.
