Australia & Oceania - THE MORIORI EVIDENCE: ..in search of Tangaroa combined...

Description

Book Synopsis: A comparison of the Maori, Moriori and Tongan languages and a short account of where Tangaroa came from and the surrounding history. Thor Heyerdahl's account of the white gods of Peru that came to the Pacific around 500 AD sparked this book which includes a lot of Tongan oral history I have picked up from my grandmother and other storytellers as a kid in Tonga. Some explanations of why I think that Thor Heyerdahl was right that there was also a migration from South America into the Pacific Islands. A list of sources for further reading is provided.

DID THE ANCIENT TONGAN KINGS COME FROM PERU?

In the series....in search of Tangaroa...I have tried to piece together the Tongan Oral History with scholastic publications to tell the story of where Tangaroa came from and who the ancient Tongan Kings were. Tongan Oral History credit Tangaroa with the establishment of the first Tu'i Tonga, 'Aho'eitu....around 4-500 AD (this is the new date from scholar papers..the old date was 950 AD) It seems rather strange that the 4th-9th Tu'i Tonga may have resided at 'Uvea (Wallis Is) some 822 km away from Tongatapu. These Kings had names common in that part of Polynesia. They are not Tongan names. But the 10th Tu'i Tonga Momo and his Queen Nua gives us a clue of where the Kings may have originated from....Tangaroa's place of origin. Nua was the daughter of a very wise man Lo'au from Eastern Polynesia. The place where Thor Heyerdahl claims that the 'white gods' landed on their way from Peru in South America around 4-500 AD. The same time that the first Tu'i Tonga appeared in oral history! Read more
