Book Synopsis: German Maps and Facts for Genealogy will point out the uniqueness of this country in a variety of maps. There are over 100 maps, from detailed historical maps of kingdoms, duchies, and principalities, to hand-rendered maps showing the religions of the states, locations of the major rivers, what was included in Prussia and much more. In addition to the many maps there are population charts, timelines showing why people left, where they left from, and where they were heading, migration figures, terms, lists of rivers, forests, mountains and historical regions, and text to support what is in each accompanying map. Each German state page has at least two maps plus information such as size, dominant religion, principal crops, livestock. industry, minerals and more. One must remember that lands included in the German Empire were all united in 1871 under one name, that of Germany. Before that time there were hundreds of individual kingdoms, duchies, principalities, and provinces, all rather small in size. Some fought over land and surprisingly some of the smallest remained intact until 1949 for West Germany or 1990 for East German states. At that time most of the were redivided into what exists today as Germany.
