Description
Book Synopsis: Addresses the design and installation of fuel gas systems and gas fired appliances through prescriptive and performance requirements. Key changes include: A new Section was added to recognize arc-resistant CSST products. The code now allows Schedule 10 steel pipe to be used, whereas previously, Schedule 40 was the lightest steel pipe material allowed. Schedule 10 steel pipe joints are allowed to be welded, brazed, flanged or assembled with press-connect fittings. Schedule 10 pipe cannot be threaded. The code clarifies that appliance shutoff valves located behind movable appliances, such as ranges and clothes dryers, are considered to be provided with the required access. The code now calls for the plastic vent pipe material to be labeled as complying with the standards for the specific pipe material as called out by the manufacturer. As an alternative, the plastic pipe can always be listed to UL1738. The clearances between direct-vent appliance vent terminals and openings in the building exterior that could allow combustion products to enter the building have been revised.

Upgrade your understanding and compliance with the latest standards in gas systems and appliances with the 2018 International Fuel Gas Code (International Code Council Series) Book! This comprehensive guide addresses all the necessary design and installation requirements to ensure safe and efficient fuel gas systems. Stay ahead of the game with this essential resource.
One of the key changes in the updated code is the recognition of arc-resistant CSST products. Now, you can have peace of mind knowing that your gas system is equipped to handle potential arc faults. Additionally, the code now allows the use of Schedule 10 steel pipe, providing more flexibility in material choice. Welded, brazed, flanged, or press-connect fittings are all acceptable methods for joining Schedule 10 steel pipe, making installation easier than ever before.
With the enhanced guidelines, safety is further emphasized. The code clarifies that appliances, such as ranges and clothes dryers, equipped with shutoff valves located behind them are considered to have the required access. This ensures that maintenance and emergency situations can be handled efficiently, without compromising on safety.
Another significant update is the requirement for plastic vent pipe materials to be labeled as compliant with specific standards prescribed by the manufacturer. As an alternative, UL1738 listing for plastic pipes is always an option. This ensures that the venting system is up to par with the necessary quality standards, giving you peace of mind.
Breathe easy with the revised clearances between direct-vent appliance vent terminals and building exterior openings. These changes effectively minimize the risk of combustion products entering your space, providing a safer environment for you and your loved ones.
Stay up to date and in compliance with the 2018 International Fuel Gas Code (International Code Council Series) Book.
