When looking at what most basketball players aspire to do when it comes to their future in the sport, the brightest stars are often thinking about how to elevate their game to get noticed by the best programs in college basketball. With the evolution of technology, it seems easier for someone to have their highlight videos noticed by scouts from elite programs like Duke University, the University of North Carolina, or Syracuse University. But back in the 1980s, it was significantly harder to get noticed. However, most programs would never have been expected to develop a player who would become one of the greatest in the National Basketball Association. Iconic players like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson were not likely to put programs like the U.S. Naval Academy at the top of their respective wish lists when it came to college basketball recruiting.
